Since 1960, Garrun Group has remained at the forefront of the insurance intermediary market. We have grown and continue to grow despite significant changes in our industry. Our clients are at an advantage with regard to our national support system. Our country-wide footprint consists of a holistic infrastructure of technical knowledge, skills and superior systems as well as a fully comprehensive range of short term insurance products to suit our client’s needs. The functions that remain within the branch environment are centred around client relationship and servicing. Branches handle the advice element – pertaining to new business and existing client retention.  All underwriting, claims and management is performed within those respective branches. We also have binding authorities through a variety of insurers.

Conscious of our legal obligations under our governing legislation and compliance requirements, we are active members of industry bodies and as such our teams are kept up to date with industry trends, developments and training. The Garrun Group business model is based on the premise 'National Strength, Local Signature'. This is the essence of what we're all about - providing locally relevant, personalised service via branches around the country.

We are a home-grown, proudly South African company with insight into our local environment. 03. Our History

Our Founder, Manny Garrun, became one of the first Liberty Life agents in the early 60's, little did he realise that he was laying the foundations for a business that would become one of South Africa's largest independent insurance brokerage groups. The success of the Garrun Group can be attributed to the vision and values laid down by Manny all those years ago. Towards the end of the 70's and early 80's, his children followed in his footsteps and thus Manny Garrun & Sons was born. In 1994, The Garrun Group was formed and embarked on an acquisitions-oriented growth strategy, which led to majority shareholding in several regional and specialist brokerages. Our BEE partnership started in 2003 and has affirmed our BEE credentials. While organic growth and acquisitions continue to inspire us we have very much kept the family feel of the business intact. Our history, service excellence, trust and fairness continues to this day and ensures that when it comes to Short Term Insurance, It’s Your Business… Made Personal.

04. Our Leadership

A central tenet of our Business Model is to integrate as much of the branch support services within a Head Office environment. In the case of Garrun Group this is the Johannesburg office. This facilitates a responsive and efficient support service for key areas of the Group’s activities.

Group CEO, Cliff Garrun founded Garrun Group in 1994. With over 40 years of experience in the short term insurance industry, Cliff envisioned the future relevance of the full-service broker model combining the highest level of technical advice and personalised service. Using his astute business acumen, he has grown the group into one of the largest independent short-term brokerages in South Africa.

Craig Symon, The Chief Operations Officer, manages our insurer relationships and plays a key role in our business.

06. Legal & Compliance

The Garrun Group understands the importance of the legislation and regulations that govern the short-term insurance industry and to best comply with these has established an internal compliance practice for our group of intermediaries.

The Group has two FSCA registered Compliance Officers: Benita Porobich who has been the Legal and Compliance officer for the Garrun Group since November 2011 and Clifford Garrun.

Each branch has a Compliance Administrator who feeds our Compliance Officers with the information they require on a daily basis. Our Compliance Officers review each Garrun FSP regularly which includes reviewing a sample of the Company’s files and interviewing their Accounts Executives to ensure compliance with the FAIS and other Acts are adhered to and that the FAIS Treating the Customer Fairly outcomes are being achieved.

Our clients are of the utmost importance to us and as a result so is Compliance. We take Compliance seriously and pride ourselves on our strong ‘ahead of the game’ compliance function.
