At Garrun Group, we pride ourselves on a well-established regional branch network, allowing us to offer personalised insurance solutions tailored to your unique needs.

This year, some Garrun team members across the country have shared expert tips to help protect what matters most to you, your business, your personal belongings and even your medical practice during the festive season and beyond.

Travelling to Mozambique?

With the annual December holiday period approaching, we know many of you may be considering a trip to the beautiful beaches of Mozambique.
We wish to bring to your attention that Mozambique is currently experiencing political unrest following the recent elections.
Please note that most insurance policies exclude cover for loss or damage caused by war, political unrest, or insurrection. As your broker, we recommend reviewing your policy to ensure you are fully informed of the scope of your cover.
Should you have any concerns or require additional information about your insurance cover, please feel free to contact us. Our team is here to provide you with clarity and support, ensuring you are fully prepared for your travels.

For those in the medical field, verifying that any locums you bring in over the festive period have their own medical malpractice insurance is essential. This safeguards your practice and ensures continuity of care.
Take extra measures to protect patient records, both digital and physical, and review your practice’s cybersecurity measures to reduce the risk of data breaches. The holiday season often sees an increase in cyber incidents, so make sure your team are cautious, for example, verify the source before clicking on links or opening attachments.
Lastly, patients should be able to understand and consent to treatments, even during the holiday rush.

Cybercrime is rising, and South Africa is particularly vulnerable due to weak cybersecurity infrastructure and other factors. December is a risky period due to increased online activity and holiday distractions. We recommend considering cyber insurance for both personal and business protection.
Our personal lines products cover events such as fund loss due to email interception, stolen identity, EFT/deposit scams, hacking and phishing attacks, cyber bullying, kidnapping, and many more.
We offer a range of business products supported by a 24-hour expert response and cyber advice team. Our comprehensive cover includes first-party losses, such as business interruption, data restoration, third-party claims, multimedia claims, regulatory expenses, and penalties. Loss of funds from cyber emergencies, such as data breaches, hacking attacks, malicious software and malware attacks, are also covered.

Ensure your vehicle tracking device is operational and double-check that your vehicle is securely locked. Clear gutters for home and office maintenance to prevent storm damage and ensure alarm systems and CCTV cameras are working. Adhere to building compliance laws and ensure you have the required electrical installation Certificate of Compliance (COC).
Many use alternate power solutions like solar panels, generators, and inverters. These must be specified on your policy and installed by a qualified electrician with a COC.
After a severe flood, wait until water levels drop before entering your property, and check with authorities if it is safe to use electricity and water. If caught on the road during a storm, use headlights and fog lights, leave more space between vehicles, and avoid driving through puddles or standing water.

Ensuring your home and belongings are safe is essential as the festive season approaches. Turn off all geysers and unplug non-essential appliances if they will not be used while away. Ask neighbours to keep an eye on your property but limit your announcements on social media for security reasons.
Make sure your alarm system is in good working order, and if you have one, place all valuables in a safe. While on holiday, stay alert and take care of your belongings. If travelling by road, ensure beforehand that your vehicle is serviced and all maintenance is current. Plan your route for a smooth journey and carry an emergency medical/first aid kit.
It is important to note that should you be driving drunk or under the influence of any mind-altering substances and have an accident, your policy will not respond.
