When Manny Garrun became one of the first Liberty Life agents 50 years ago, little did he realise that he was laying the foundations for a business that would later become one of South Africa’s largest independent insurance brokerage groups.
Although Manny initially focused on general life products, he later expanded and developed an extensive short-term portfolio. Towards the end of the 70s and early 80s, his children followed in his footsteps and thus Manny Garrun & Sons was born.
The company grew from strength to strength. In 1994, Cliff Garrun and Sandy Guthrie formed the Garrun Group and embarked on an acquisitions-orientated growth strategy, which led to majority shareholdings in several regional and specialists brokerages.
A Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) partner was brought on board in November 2003. While organic and acquisitions-generated growth remains central to the realisation of our commercial objectives, we don’t aspire to the trappings of larger corporations.
Building relationships with our clients has always been key to our service offering, which explains why many of these stretch back 20, even 30 years. Today, just as before, we remain intent on maintaining the personal touch and quality service that has characterised our company ethos right from the very beginning.
